How to support my child

with dyslexia?

As parents, receiving a diagnosis of dyslexia for your child can be both clarifying and overwhelming.

At The Brain Accelerator, we know and understand the daily challenges you and your child face—reading avoidance, homework anxiety, and feeling defeated when they fall behind their peers. We know you are watching as these daily battles chip away at their confidence, leaving you wondering how to help.

What's truly empowering is knowing that you can take proactive, practical steps to support your child’s cognitive and emotional growth.

We can support you and your child through evidence-based intervention programs designed for dyslexic learners.

Uncover WHY your child is

struggling to READ

The source of over 88% of reading problems is due to weak cognitive skills.

Children who avoid reading, reverse letters like b and d, confuse similar-looking words, and struggle with comprehension may show signs of dyslexia. When reading feels frustrating or embarrassing, it often leads to meltdowns, anxiety, or complete shutdowns. You may hear things like, “I hate reading,” “I’m dumb,” or “Why is this so hard for me?”—not because your child is unmotivated, but because they’re overwhelmed. If your child gets upset during homework, avoids books, or acts out when it’s time to read or write, the issue might not be behaviour—it could be a processing difficulty.

Many children with reading challenges have underlying difficulties in auditory processing—not with hearing, but with how the brain processes sounds. This can lead to difficulties with phonemic awareness, which is foundational for reading and writing. However, not all reading struggles stem from the same root. Some children with dyslexia have strong auditory processing but weak visual processing, making it hard to track letters or remember how words look.

This assessment differs from a diagnostic assessment you may have had with an Educational Psychologist. While based on the same theories of intelligence, our assessment helps uncover “why” your child has a diagnosis of dyslexia or reading struggle.
