Does my child have Dyslexia?
As parents, few things are more difficult than watching our child struggle, especially when we know how bright and capable they are. At The Brain Accelerator, we regularly speak with parents who are concerned about their child’s reading progress and quietly wonder: “Could this be dyslexia?”
You might have noticed these signs in your child:
Reads slowly or avoids reading altogether
Has trouble sounding out unfamiliar words
Confuses letters or sounds (like “b” and “d” or “p” and “q”)
Had speech or language delays earlier on
Spells words inconsistently or phonetically
Struggles to remember what they just read
Reverses letters or numbers when writing
If several of these symptoms feel familiar, your child may be exhibiting signs of a reading disorder, such as dyslexia. But more important than the label is understanding why your child is struggling.
Uncover WHY your child is struggling to READ
The source of over 88% of reading problems is due to weak cognitive skills.
Children who avoid reading, reverse letters like b and d, confuse similar-looking words, or struggle to sound out basic sentences may be showing signs of dyslexia. When reading feels frustrating or embarrassing, it often leads to meltdowns, anxiety, or complete shutdowns. You may hear things like, “I hate reading,” “I’m dumb,” or “Why is this so hard for me?”—not because they’re lazy or unmotivated, but because they’re overwhelmed. If your child gets upset during homework, avoids books, or acts out when it’s time to read or write, the issue might not be behavior—it could be a processing difficulty. The good news? You don’t have to guess. Our Cognitive Skills Assessment uncovers the real reasons behind reading resistance and attention struggles—offering a natural, proven way forward beyond medication or classroom accommodations.

Many families and individuals describe experiencing an “Aha!” moment when they see the results of their test. In fact, we often hear comments like “Now everything makes sense!” as families see the performance of weak skills responsible for some of their most frustrating daily struggles. The reason to complete a cognitive test to identify weak skills is simple: Once identified, weak skills can be strengthened through the right intervention. Strengthening these skills typically addresses the root cause of the problem, and removes frustrating obstacles to learning.
